Welcome to the official page of Jordi's new record, Monkeys’ Meeting!

It is Jordi Grognard’s first album as a (band)leader, released by the Gent (Belgum)-based label el NEGOCITO Records.
The band is a trio consisting of Manolo Cabras on doublebass and Gaspard Sicx on drums, Jordi playing tenor sax, bass clarinet and flute and bringing his compositions to the group’s repertoire.

Time flies! And so does music when musicians are connected. This trio has been playing together since many years -mainly in and around Brussels' jazz venues- therefore the music they share has constantly been evolving, from (and back to) jazz standards, Monk & Ornette Coleman originals and own personal pieces.

Together they present an acoustic sound, natural, vibrating and alive. Using dynamics, registres and timbres, their flowing music goes south, opens up, creates layers and landscapes, flies away. It is music that drives on freedom, energy & lyriscism, yet spiritual and delicate.

Both Manolo Cabras and Jordi Grognard have a long history with el NEGOCITO Records. Manolo appears on numerous albums from Erik Vermeulen, Ben Sluijs and his own quartet, Jordi plays on three releases by Gent-band MOKER, along with Giovanni Barcella & Bart Maris, as well as playing oboe and clarinets on Giovanni Di Domenico's Abschattungen. Gaspard Sicx is busy playing with Supergum, his own trio and collaborates with US-based songwriter Zack Philips.

Besides (t)his personal trio, Jordi Grognard is also active with YOKAI, a psychedelic 6-piece outfit, TOUT FINIRA BIEN/SAGE RAGE, the Japanese maverick DEGURUTIENI and OBA LOBA (aka Norberto Lobo & Joao Lobo Sexteto). Jordi also plays vinyl-only dj sets under the mysterious name of JORDI3000.
